Why You Will Love Blackened Tilapia

Save some reserved blackened seasoning and make a double batch of it for salmon or shrimp. Keep the leftover seasoning in an airtight container.

One of the great things about cooking tilapia on a Blackstone is the ability to customize the flavor profile to your liking. You can use whatever seasonings you prefer such as salt, pepper, and lemon, or want to get more creative with spices and herbs, the griddle allows you to easily experiment with different flavor combinations.

Clean up is super easy! Additionally, the ease of cleanup with a griddle makes cooking tilapia a hassle-free experience, leaving you with more time to enjoy your meal and less time spent on cleanup.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Tilapia fillets - or any frozen white fish such as cod will be fine. I like the Good and Gather Tilapia at Target. Comes in pouches and easy to defrost.
  • Paprika - is a spice made from ground, dried fruits of Capsicum annuum, a type of pepper plant. It is typically sweet and mild, but can also have a slightly bitter or spicy taste depending on the variety used.
  • Garlic powder - is made from dehydrated garlic cloves and like the chili powder above it gets pulverized into a powder or flour consistency.
  • Onion powder is dehydrated, ground onion that is commonly used as a seasoning. Some people do not like the taste of freshly chopped onion so onion powder is a great substitute if you have a picky eater like that in your house.
  • Thyme
  • Oregano
  • Cayenne pepper -  is a type of chili pepper that is commonly used to add heat and flavor to dishes. It is named after the city of Cayenne in French Guiana and is often sold in powdered form.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil - Look for olive oils that are labeled as extra virgin, cold-pressed, and unfiltered for the highest quality.
  • Lemon wedges for serving

What is Blackened Seasoning made of?

Blackened seasoning is a popular spice blend used in Cajun and Creole cuisine to add a bold and spicy flavor to dishes, especially when cooking meats like fish, chicken, or steak. The key ingredients typically found in blackened seasoning include paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, cayenne pepper, and black pepper.

What Can I serve with Blackened Tilapia?

  1. Roasted Vegetables A colorful medley of roasted vegetables such as bell peppers, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, and some Air Fryer Asparagus can add a burst of flavor and nutrients to your tilapia dish.
  2. Quinoa or Brown Rice Nutritious grains like quinoa or brown rice can serve as a healthy and filling base for your tilapia. Their mild flavors won't overpower the fish but will provide a satisfying accompaniment. I really love the 90 second rice and quinoa packets you can get at Target.
  3. Mango Salsa For a tropical twist, consider topping your tilapia with a fresh and vibrant mango salsa. Try this recipe for Blackstone Salmon with Mango salsa. The salsa recipe is included in the recipe but can also be used for Tilapia.

Why are Blackstone griddles so great?

Blackstone griddles are popular among outdoor cooking enthusiasts because of their versatility and they are also transportable so you can take them camping or to the lake. Unlike traditional grills.
Blackstone griddles have a flat cooking surface which allows for even heat distribution and the ability to cook a variety of foods at once. You can easily get restaurant-quality dishes cooking at home and make recipes like Blackstone Philly Cheeseteaks, Blackstone Smashburgers, or Blackstone Hibachi Chicken and Vegetables.
Additionally, Blackstone griddles are easy to clean and maintain, which makes them a great investment for those who love outdoor cooking. Overall, their durability, versatility, and ease of use make Blackstone griddles a great option for anyone looking to up their outdoor cooking game.

Do I preheat a griddle? Yes, it is recommended to preheat a griddle before using it. This allows for even heat distribution and can help prevent food from sticking. The exact preheating time may vary depending on the type of griddle and the desired cooking temperature, but a general rule of thumb is to preheat for about 5-10 minutes.

What if I don’t have a Blackstone? Any type of non stick skillet over a stove top will work just fine!
