When I was in college, I used to work at a dining center and on the weekends they'd serve brunch. Some of the employees would fight over who got to make the french toast and they had these huge grills that you'd make them on. The batter would be made ahead of time, so all you had to do was dip the french toast inside the custard and spread the toast on this huge grill surface. It was quite fun. That was one of my favorite jobs and it was fun to go to.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

This french toast is pretty much the same recipe we used there. Huge slices of Texas Toast. The bread can either make or break the french toast in my opinion.

Basic french toast custard consists of egg, milk, and vanilla. We would add in cinnamon. I'm pretty sure there wasn't really a basic recipe we'd follow we'd pretty much just winged it all the time.

If you have more eggs then milk yours in good shape. Then there are the toppings. You could go pretty crazy for this but if you want to be super healthy some fresh fruit is always good on top with some sugar free syrup. Keep some frozen berries or fruit in your freezer so you just have to take them out and defrost them for a minute in the microwave.

Ingredients Needed

Ingredients needed for Blackstone French Toast.
  • Slices of  reduced calorie light bread
  • Eggs - The best type of eggs you can buy at the store are organic or free-range eggs, while others may prefer eggs from specific breeds of chickens
  • Skim milk - Dairy does not like me at all so I go for a lactose free milk such as Fairlife. It also has more protein in it.
  • Vanilla - It is made by macerating and soaking vanilla beans in a mixture of water and Vodka. Use a good pure vanilla instead of the imitation vanilla extract.
  • Cinnamon - is a spice that comes from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum. (optional)
  • Toppings
  • Frozen berries (I pop these in a microwave safe bowl for 1 minute)
  • Reddi Whip Fat-Free Topping
  • See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

What to Serve with French Toast

Fresh Fruits: One popular choice is to serve French toast with fresh fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, bananas, or raspberries.

Whipped Cream: You can also top your French toast with a dollop of whipped cream or a sprinkle of powdered sugar for an extra touch of indulgence.

Protein Choices: Another great option is to serve French toast with a side of crispy bacon or sausage. You can also cook bacon and eggs on a griddle. Try How to Cook Bacon on a Blackstone or Breakfast on a Blackstone (Scrambled Eggs).

Alternatively, you can serve French toast with a side of scrambled eggs or a vegetable omelette for a hearty and nutritious breakfast.

Lastly, a drizzle of maple syrup or honey is a classic choice to enhance the flavors of French toast.

How do I store leftovers?

Always store leftovers in clean, food-grade containers. The type of container doesn’t really matter. Use zip lock, glass, plastic,  whatever!  Make sure to store any leftovers in an airtight container.

Blackstone griddles are popular among outdoor cooking enthusiasts because of their versatility and they are also transportable so you can take them camping or to the lake. Unlike traditional grills.

Can I cook french toast on a Blackstone griddle?

Yes, you can absolutely cook French toast on a griddle! In fact, using a griddle is a fantastic way to make multiple pieces of French toast at once, making it an efficient choice for feeding a group. To make French toast on a griddle, start by preheating the griddle to medium heat and lightly greasing it with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
